  • HP Helion Public Cloud Technical Overview (H4C10AAE)
  • This class requires some development experience; otherwise, you will not benefit from this course. There will be some coding exercises throughout the class. No previous HPCS experience is necessary

Module 1 - Overview of HP Helion Public Cloud Technologies

  • Describe the role of the HP Helion Public Cloud as part of the larger set of HP Cloud Services
  • Describe the primary, supporting, and early availability services in the HP Helion Public Cloud
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the HP Helion Public Cloud Console, including the initial steps required to get started on the HP Cloud service
  • Explain how to manage your HP Helion Public Cloud account, including managing users and groups, monitoring use, and understanding account limits


Module 2 - Using HP Helion Public Cloud Compute

  • List the compute services available in the HP Helion Public Cloud
  • Explain security concepts in the HP Helion Public Cloud
    • Key pairs
    • Security groups
  • Describe the default network configuration for new compute instances
  • Demonstrate the ability to create and manage basic compute instances
  • Create and manage custom images

Module 3 - Using HP Helion Public Cloud Storage

  • Explain how to use and manage the storage services available in the HP Helion Public Cloud for Compute instances

    • Block storage
    • Object storage
  • Explain how to extend the object store value by using the HP Helion Public Cloud Content Delivery Network service
  • Explain how to enable content caching

Module 4 - HP Helion Networking

  • Describe the concepts important to understanding the way Helion Networking functions
  • Explain how to manage and customize the default network configuration
  • Explain how to manage a network domain with the HP Domain Naming Service (DNS)

Module 5 - Command Line, API, and Bindings

  • Describe the different tools available to manage the HP Helion Public Cloud service
  • Install, authenticate, and use OpenStack and Windows PowerShell command line tools
  • Explain how to use the HP Helion Public Cloud application programming interfaces (APIs), including managing scoped and unscoped tokens and making calls to each service API
  • Demonstrate an ability to make API calls via browser clients and cURL
  • List the different language bindings available to manage the HP Helion Public Cloud

Module 6 - HP Supporting Services

  • Demonstrate how to use HP Helion Public Cloud Monitoring service to monitor performance of other Public Cloud services
  • Explain how to use SQL instances, and describe their advantages relative to standard Compute instances
  • Explain how to use load balancing to create scalable solutions in the HP Helion Public Cloud

  • Create a Microsoft Windows virtual machine (VM) instance in HP Helion Public Cloud
  • Connect to a virtual machine (VM) on Helion Public Cloud

Lab 4 — Block Storage Services in HP Helion Public Cloud

  • Set up block storage services in HP Helion Public Cloud
  • Attach this storage to a compute instance

Lab 5 — Object Storage Services in HP Helion Public Cloud

  • Activate the Object Storage service
  • Create a snapshot of a compute image
  • Create an instance from a snapshot
  • Create an Object Store container
  • Use Content Delivery Network (CDN)
  • Change the Time to Live (TTL) of the CDN
  • Automatically synchronize the objects between containers in different Object Storage regions

  • Explore the network interface

Lab 7 — Monitoring in HP Helion Public Cloud

  • Activate the HP Helion Public Cloud Monitoring service

Lab 8 — Using HP Helion Public Cloud Relational Database

  • Activate the HP Helion Public Cloud database service and connect to a database
  • Back up a relational database

Lab 9 — HP Helion Public Cloud CLI and API

  • Download and use the command line interface (CLI) tools appropriate for working in HP Helion Public Cloud
  • Use the OpenStack CLI Python client
  • Use the HP Helion Public representational state transfer (REST) application programming interface (API)
  • Use the HP Public Helion Public REST API with client for URL (cURL)
  • Use the Mozilla Firefox REST client

Lab 10 — Using Stackato ActiveState in HP Helion Public Cloud

  • Create a Stackato ActiveState instance
  • Configure a Stackato instance
  • Connect to a Stackato instance
  • Deploy applications
