About this Seminar


The Security on AWS practical workshop is designed to introduce students to some of the security features of the AWS platform. We will assume a basic knowledge of core AWS services such as S3 and EC2. The workshop will have a short presentation followed by practical labs in which students will audit an AWS environment, including IAM, VPC and EC2 security settings, before going on to protect a web application using AWS Web Application Firewall.

Target Audience

This course is intended for:

  • System Operators
  • Developers

Prior knowledge of basic AWS services is required.

Students must bring a laptop. If you are using a managed corporate Windows laptop, please ensure either that you already have an SSH client installed (e.g. PuTTY), or that you have sufficient privileges to download and install one on the day. (MacOS and Linux laptops have SSH built in.)
