About this Course

Duration 1 Day

Managing our finances and our investments is extremely important throughout life but few of us receive any training in doing so. The purpose of these workshops is to equip employees, especially those in the early stage of their careers, with a general education on all aspects of finance and a longer-term perspective that will stand them in good stead throughout their careers.

The aim of the workshop is:

  • To equip delegates with a general education on key aspects of managing their money and planning for the future
  • To arm delegates with ideas about good practice and rules to follow in managing money
  • To assist delegates with understanding the importance of and ways of saving for the future, including saving for retirement
  • To get delegates to identify what they need to do differently and to create an associated action plan

The workshop gets delegates thinking about their own personal financial situation, rather than just receiving lots of information.

It starts by providing a basic grounding in the main aspects of finance and then looks at key areas in more depth. It is informal and interactive, with delegates actively encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas for the benefit of the group as a whole.

Delegates will learn how to

The key objective of the workshop is to enable the delegates to construct a realistic and effective financial plan from managing debt, through saving and mortgages, all the way to pensions.

The aim is to motivate delegates to identify things that they personally need to take action on, rather than just receiving lots of information. The workshop is informal and interactive with delegates encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas for the benefit of the group as a whole. The material used is very visual and designed to assist delegates to take better control of their finances.

At the end of the workshop delegates will have considered:

  • Basic financial education including budgeting, debt management, savings and protection needs
  • The value of employee benefits
  • Good habits: focusing on the outcome/purpose; common financial planning mistakes; defining financial goals, budgeting, reviewing current choices, making use of employer benefits
  • Borrowing money
  • Debt Management
  • Homes and Mortgages
  • Protection
  • Savings and Investments
  • Retirement Planning

As a result, they will have awareness, the necessary understanding to take the next steps in planning their finances, and knowledge which will be of value time and time again during their careers.

The workshop is an educational event conducted by a finance professional from Jelf, specialising in employee benefits, rather than a Financial Adviser; and there will be no attempt to sell financial services to delegates, although delegates may request follow up contacts and support if they so wish.
