The IBM Tivoli Netcool OMNIbus 7.3 release incorporates several advancements over previous versions of this enterprise level operations management solution. This course will cover the aspects, utilization and configuration setting of the User interfaces. Participants configure and utilize both the legacy and new Web GUI interface including the Tivoli Integrated Portal. Participants will work with defined pages, maps filters and views as well as how to specify multiple data source event lists. New functionality around creating maps, filters and views will be examined. Participants will configure client Accelerated Event Notifications.

Prerequisites

This intermediate-level course is for existing OMNIbus V7.2.1 and earlier advanced administrators and users. This course is intended to update current skill sets of support personal and user communities to version 7.3 functionality.

Students should have the following skills:

  • Linux/UNIX System administration experience
  • Understanding of basic networking protocols and addressing
  • Understanding of HTML / XML code construction
  • Ability to navigate an operational Netcool/OMNIbus with Web GUI environment
  • Intermediate Netcool/OMNIbus configuration skills

  • Examine client system configurations

Legacy client functionality -

  • Configure legacy communication protocols
  • Access and navigate legacy directory structures
  • Launch the legacy OMNIbus Conductor component
  • Utilize Conductor GUI elements
  • Configure and utilize the Event List component
  • Create filters, views and event list configuration files
  • Utilize the filter builder functionality
  • Utilize the view builder functionality
  • Apply created legacy configurations within the Conductor
  • Configure the Accelerated Event Notification client
    • Legacy AEN functionality
    • Web GUI AEN functionality

Tivoli Integrated Portal and Web GUI client functionality introduction -

  • Access the TIP portal

Filters -

  • Search, create, copy, delete and modify filters and assign accessibility
  • Describe personal, Global and System filters
  • Assign Multiple data sources for filters

  • Utilize and create basic filter SQL statements

Views -

  • Search, create, copy, delete and modify views and assign accessibility
  • Describe personal, Global and System views
  • Assign Multiple data sources for views
  • Define Views to accept differing column definitions from ObjectServers
  • Utilize the view builder functionality

Event Dashboard -

  • Utilize default Event Dashboard page
  • Utilize and describe Event Dashboard icons and preferences pop-ups
  • Configure Dashboard layouts, menu options and visuals
  • Configure multiple data source entries for monitor boxes
  • Modify and edit user and system wide setting for Dashboard page

Active Event List (AEL) -

  • Launch and access the AEL
  • Describe how filter SQL determines list elements
  • Utilize the AEL icons, menus and filter and view assignments
  • Modify and edit user and system wide setting for AEL page
  • Configure multiple data source entries for AEL page
  • Implement AEL with views containing different columns from different ObjectServers
  • Describe elements/indicators of the AEL page
  • Utilize and describe AEL tools and actions on events

Unit 4 - Web GUI interface - Maps
