About this Course

Code TPMB200
Duration 2 Days

Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) is a European-defined digital mobile radio technology. It has been widely adopted within Europe and in other parts of the world. TETRA is primarily designed to operate as a two-way radio for a range of different organization types and sizes. The flexibility written into the TETRA standards enables it to fulfil almost any role associated with public and private mobile radio network operation.

All aspects of a TETRA system are described including the TETRA 1 and TETRA 2 standards. The course introduces trunking principles, service aspects, network planning and architecture. Technical details about the TETRA radio interface are also examined.

The Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) system has been designed to meet the varied requirements of private mobile users. This encompasses networks as diverse as basic radio-to-radio communication between two users and a fully data capable switched infrastructure providing national coverage for thousands of users. This very broad capability requirement for a single technology results in an extensive technical specification.

Familiarity with the architecture and general operation of typical VHF or UHF mobile networks is advantageous, and some understanding of radio techniques is useful.
