QA has extended its range of ELCAS-approved courses with the addition of a 5-day NIST Cyber Security Professional (NCSP) bootcamp.  The instructor-led NCSP® bootcamp, which is accredited under the NCSC Certified training scheme, combines both the Foundation and Practitioner courses, providing service leavers with an understanding of common cyber security risks and how to apply the NIST framework in the workplace. The NCSP bootcamp is just one of the QA cyber security skills courses available through the resettlement training scheme.

With the continued growth in cyber attacks on UK organisations, accredited cyber practitioners are in high demand. Service leavers attending the NCSP accredited training programme will learn how to rapidly engineer, operationalise and automate the NIST Cyber Security Framework controls and the management systems required to deliver best practice.

“This bootcamp delivers a solid grounding in the cyber security skills that service leavers need to protect employers from the cyber threats they face every day,” explains Richard Beck, Director of Cyber at QA and himself a military service leaver. “In my experience, the combination of highly valued skills that veterans bring to tech roles – risk assessment, governance and project management – with accredited cyber qualifications makes for a very employable individual, especially in the current cyber climate.”

A recent Royal Air Force service leaver who is now employed as an IT business analyst in the financial sector describes his experience of the programme:

"Having been keen to break into the cyber security industry as a change of career direction, my research led me to the NIST Cyber Security Professional (NCSP) Programme. The Foundation course is a great entry-level introduction to this framework and has already landed me my first contract. As a service leaver looking to secure my civilian future in cyber, this course was exactly what I was looking for.”

QA’s 5-day NIST NCSP bootcamp covers the Foundation and Practitioner levels. Learners who are interested in pursuing the NCSP certification and career path further can go on to become NIST 800-53 or NIST 800-171 NCSP specialists. Candidates completing the NCSP Boot Camp Certificate course are also eligible to sit the associated APMG certification exam.

With all veterans leaving the Armed Forces between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2016 now able to use Enhanced Learning Credits for 10 years, there is no better time to embark up on a certification and career pathway that will lead to a post-military career in a growing sector.
