Overview

Recent high profile project failures are often judged to be unsuccessful not because of insufficient technical or project management capability, but due to a lack of effective project governance and inadequate strategic leadership and support. ‘The

Campaign for Real Project Sponsors’ states that:

  • 85% of projects have project sponsors
  • 100% of organisations believe that a good sponsor is critical to project success
  • but 83% of organisations do nothing to develop sponsors!

In APM’s research project, ‘12 Conditions for Project Success’, the sponsor plays a lead role in five of these conditions. This short webinar considers how a sponsor contributes to successful project delivery. We identify ways in which sponsors provide active guidance and support to project managers and their teams - whilst ensuring that resources are used to deliver best value outcomes for internal and external stakeholders. The session will close by looking at the learning outcomes and content for QA’s ‘Developing Effective Project Sponsors’ workshop.

The session will be led by Gerry McCafferty, a senior learning design consultant at QA Ltd. Gerry has extensive project management experience gained within multi-national engineering and consulting organisations. He has also developed and delivered global project management learning programmes for organisations such as Network Rail, TfL, Babcock, and Nestlé.
