What is a data apprenticeship?

A data apprenticeship is a training programme that helps individuals to kickstart a career in data, and allows businesses to bring new talent into their organisation.

Data apprentices will learn a number of different skills, depending on the programme they choose. A Data Analyst programme will give learners the skills for effective data analysis and an understanding of how to apply statistics and modelling predictions, while a Data Engineer programme gives learners the tools to build and maintain complex data systems.

Data apprenticeships combine virtual learning and hands-on work experience, ensuring learners are ready for life in the workplace.

What skills will I develop as a data apprentice?

The skills learned as a data apprenticeship will vary depending on the programme you choose. Here some of the most common data skills covered in data programmes:

Technical Skills

Programming languages, such as SQL, Python and R and data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

Problem Solving

How to interpret complex data sets, identify patterns and solve real-world business challenges.

Business Knowledge

Discovery of the role that data plays in wider business strategies and the impact it can have on key business decisions.

Soft Skills

Learn how to communicate data findings and present them to non-technical stakeholders.

Why do businesses need data analysts?

Skilled data and business analysts can provide businesses with an advantage over their competition, through greater insights and data-driven decisions. This can include analysing business performance, predicting future outcomes and support with critical decision making.

These actionable insights can help to optimise processes, improve business performance and enable greater adaptability.

There are a wide range of data certifications available which can help data analysts support businesses. These cover a wide range of topics, from GDPR and data privacy certifications, to data centre certifications, data warehousing and more.

Which industries hire data analysts?

Data analysts are in demand across a wide variety of industries. From the technology sector, to banking and finance, healthcare, marketing and the public sector, data professionals are increasingly playing a critical role for many organisations.
