Let’s make it work for you

Overview

This three-day course provides IT professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to configure, manage, and secure core and advanced networking features in Windows Server 2025. The course focuses on enabling reliable connectivity across on-premises, branch office, and hybrid cloud environments while supporting modern enterprise networking requirements.

Learners will explore IP addressing, IP Address Management, Domain Name System, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, alongside remote access technologies such as virtual private networks. The course also examines integration between networking services and Hyper-V, including advanced virtual networking capabilities. An introduction to software defined networking completes the programme, giving learners insight into how Windows Server networking continues to evolve. Throughout the course, hands-on exercises reinforce learning and enable delegates to apply concepts in realistic scenarios.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, learners should have experience working within a Windows Server infrastructure in an enterprise environment. They should understand the OSI model and have knowledge of core networking components and technologies, including cabling, routers, hubs, and switches. Familiarity with common networking topologies and architectures such as local area networks, wide area networks, and wireless networking is required. Prior experience administering Windows Server is beneficial, and an understanding of Windows PowerShell will support learning but is not mandatory.

Target audience

This course is designed for IT professionals who work with Windows Server and want to build or refresh their networking knowledge for modern environments. It is particularly relevant for network administrators who are relatively new to Windows Server administration and want to develop confidence with both core and advanced networking features. The course also supports professionals responsible for maintaining or upgrading network services across Windows Server versions from 2016 through to Windows Server 2025.

Outline

Implementing IPv4 networking

This module explains how to plan and implement an IPv4 addressing scheme that supports organisational requirements. Learners explore subnetting, address allocation, and the use of core networking tools to configure and troubleshoot IPv4-based networks. The module also introduces IP Address Management and its role in maintaining visibility and control across enterprise environments.

Implementing Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

This module focuses on planning, deploying, and managing Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol to support IPv4 infrastructure. Learners configure scopes, options, and reservations, and explore high availability through DHCP failover. Troubleshooting techniques are also covered to help maintain reliable address assignment.

Implementing Domain Name System

This module explains how Domain Name System supports name resolution within an organisation. Learners configure forward and reverse lookup zones, manage resource records, and understand how DNS supports application and service connectivity across the network.

DNS integration and advanced settings

This module introduces integration between Active Directory Domain Services and DNS. Learners manage and maintain Active Directory integrated zones and configure advanced DNS settings such as split-brain DNS. The module also covers securing DNS using DNS Security Extensions and applying DNS policies to control name resolution behaviour.

Implementing IPv6

This module explains the fundamentals of IPv6 and the reasons organisations adopt it. Learners configure native IPv6 addressing and explore techniques for integrating IPv6 with existing IPv4 networks, including coexistence and transition strategies.

Understanding remote access

This module explains how to plan and implement remote access solutions in Windows Server 2025. Learners explore virtual private networking and related technologies, including Web Application Proxy. The module focuses on enabling secure access for remote users while maintaining control and visibility for administrators.

Remote office networking

This module explains how to implement network services for branch office environments. Learners explore Distributed File System and BranchCache to improve access to resources, reduce bandwidth usage, and support consistent user experiences across geographically distributed locations.

Securing network traffic

This module addresses the options available in Windows Server to secure network traffic. Learners explore techniques and features that help protect data in transit and enforce secure communication within the network infrastructure.

Exams and assessments

There are no formal exams associated with this course. Learning is reinforced through practical exercises and instructor-led activities that assess understanding and application of key concepts throughout the programme.

Hands-on learning

This course includes extensive hands-on learning through a series of practical exercises. Learners work through scenarios that include planning and implementing IPv4 networks, configuring DHCP and DNS, integrating Active Directory with DNS, implementing IPv6, deploying virtual private networks, supporting branch office services, and securing network traffic. Instructor guidance is provided throughout to support troubleshooting and reinforce best practices.
