Today’s Business Analysts are expected to go beyond their traditional focus of change related IT solutions. They must understand business strategy, apply structured analysis techniques, and identify the changes needed in business processes to respond to both internal and external challenges.
This course equips learners with the skills to collaborate effectively with business and IT stakeholders. You’ll learn how to investigate business problems, model business activities, and recommend innovative, practical solutions.
At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to sit the associated exam and earn the BCS Certificate in Business Analysis Practice, a key step in your professional development.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for attending this course. Although not essential, it may be advantageous if you have completed a Foundation course in the Diploma pathway and/or have some experience.
Target Audience
This course is suitable for people who already have a business analysis role and want to gain a deeper understanding of business analysis strategy and application. It makes up one of the two core courses within the BCS international diploma track.
This course is suitable for practicing business analysts, aspiring senior BAs, project and change managers, product owners and product managers, consultants and business change professional and solution or systems analysts.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of strategic business analysis concepts, frameworks, and techniques applicable to the business analyst role. Specifically, learners will be able to:

Modules
The course consists of six modules:
- The strategic context for business analysis.
- Analysing and managing stakeholders.
- Analysing the current state.
- Establishing the target state.
- Defining the solution.
- Developing the business case.
Delivery Method
This Blended Learning course consists of three key stages.

Self-Paced Learning
- Up to 15 hours, completed over a 4-week period prior to the live event.
- It is critical that the self-paced learning is completed prior to joining the live event.
- It is recommended that learners have a minimum of 4 weeks between the course booking and the instructor-led live event to complete the necessary hours of learning.
- The self-paced learning is available 4 weeks prior to the live event and for 12 months following the live event.
Instructor-Led Live Event
- This course has a 2-day live event.
Exams and Assessments
- 1-hour multiple-choice and multiple response online examination for the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Business Analysis Practice.
- There are 40 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. The pass mark is 26 correct answers of 40 (65%).
- Learners will receive an email with details of how to book their online exam. It is recommended the exam is completed within two weeks of attending the course where possible.
- BCS exams take place remotely via QuestionMark Proctoring. When booking your exam, please ensure you book a slot that is after the course has concluded and at a time convenient for you. You will be required to download and install QuestionMark and conduct a compatibility test prior to sitting the exam.
- In order to be eligible to take the associated exam, you are required to provide a valid, government-issued photo ID with a valid signature (e.g. a driving licence or passport), prior to sitting your exam. Failure to produce this ID will result in your examination unable go ahead and you will be subject to charges from the Exam Board.
Reasonable adjustments policy
BCS provides additional time for candidates who have a disability or whose first language is different from the language of the examination paper. Full details can be found in the BCS Reasonable Adjustments Policy, available on the BCS website. To request reasonable adjustments, you must inform the Exam Administration Team as early as possible. A minimum of two weeks' notice is required to process your request. Please note that if you do not notify QA in time or fail to provide the necessary evidence when requested, you may not be granted the additional support outlined in the BCS policy.

How can I create an account on myQA.com?
There are a number of ways to create an account. If you are a self-funder, simply select the "Create account" option on the login page.
If you have been booked onto a course by your company, you will receive a confirmation email. From this email, select "Sign into myQA" and you will be taken to the "Create account" page. Complete all of the details and select "Create account".
If you have the booking number you can also go here and select the "I have a booking number" option. Enter the booking reference and your surname. If the details match, you will be taken to the "Create account" page from where you can enter your details and confirm your account.

How do QA’s virtual classroom courses work?
Our virtual classroom courses allow you to access award-winning classroom training, without leaving your home or office. Our learning professionals are specially trained on how to interact with remote attendees and our remote labs ensure all participants can take part in hands-on exercises wherever they are.
We use the WebEx video conferencing platform by Cisco. Before you book, check that you meet the WebEx system requirements and run a test meeting to ensure the software is compatible with your firewall settings. If it doesn’t work, try adjusting your settings or contact your IT department about permitting the website.
How do QA’s online courses work?
QA online courses, also commonly known as distance learning courses or elearning courses, take the form of interactive software designed for individual learning, but you will also have access to full support from our subject-matter experts for the duration of your course.
Once you have purchased the Online course and have completed your registration, you will receive the necessary details to enable you to immediately access it through our e-learning platform and you can start to learn straight away, from any compatible device. Access to the online learning platform is valid for one year from the booking date.
All courses are built around case studies and presented in an engaging format, which includes storytelling elements, video, audio and humour. Every case study is supported by sample documents and a collection of Knowledge Nuggets that provide more in-depth detail on the wider processes.
When will I receive my joining instructions?
Joining instructions for QA courses are sent two weeks prior to the course start date, or immediately if the booking is confirmed within this timeframe. For course bookings made via QA but delivered by a third-party supplier, joining instructions are sent to attendees prior to the training course, but timescales vary depending on each supplier’s terms.
