Biography
Richard is a senior security operator with 15+ years across public and private sectors, with a passion for skills.
With over 15 years of experience in senior operational security roles, CISO experience in tech, defence, financial services, and government, Richard has a deep understanding of the current and future cyber security needs and trends. A sought after advisory board member, as a strategic mentor and advisor on cybersecurity, emerging AI security, with deep industry knowledge. He is passionate about sharing insights through publications, speaking engagements, mentoring, and industry collaboration.
Collaboration
- Richard is a member of the Offensive Security (OffSec) Advisory Board, a role he has held for over 5 years.
- He is a panel advisor for the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Start-ups Assessment Panel providing commercial cyber security industry expertise.
- He was appointed as an advisor to the UK Government Department for Education (DfE) / Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) Digital Route, Skills England.
- Richard is a mentor for the CyberASAP (Innovative UK) pre-seed funding cyber innovation accelerator programme, providing expertise, knowledge and training to convert research into technologies, products and services.
- Previously Chair and Vice Chair of the government communication industry information exchange for UK critical infrastructure (CPNI / NPSA).
Passion for Skills
- Richard designed, authored and architected numerous enterprise, nationwide and international cyber programmes, including CyberFirst for the NCSC, which has inspired over 415,000 young people.
- Other programmes include, Women in Cyber (WiCyS) Cloud Security Auditor, Cyber Summer Schools, numerous global Secure-by-Design Security Engineering programmes for Financial Services, and the award-winning National Cybercrime Programme for 3,000+ law enforcement officers.
- He pioneered the first UK cyber security apprentice ‘fast track’ programme for the UK government, going on to establish multiple successful cyber apprenticeships programmes, that continue to inspire and lead the market today.
Operational security highlights
Richard's operational cyber security highlights include; working to secure one of the UK’s first nationwide digital transformations, across UK Air Defence infrastructure. Leading multiple large scale critical national infrastructure (CNI) cyber security programmes, responsible for defending 20% of UK CNI, including the security design and delivery of the UK Smart Metering solution.
