In Cyber Security, Everything Is a Priority. Now What?

Overview
A Practical Session to Support Cyber Security Leaders in Mitigating Pressure
Cyber Security leaders operate in environments where everything is a priority and, in turn, urgency is constant, levels of prioritisation change rapidly, and decisions must be made quickly (often with very incomplete information). These conditions create constant pressure, which, over time, becomes the background of the job becoming so normalized that many leaders stop noticing how it’s shaping the way they think, decide, and lead. Bringing the sources of pressure to the forefront is the first step toward navigating it more effectively.
We will first examine the behavioral signals that pressure is accumulating, including narrowed thinking, impatience, slowed recovery from crises, difficulty disconnecting from work, and a deepening sense of isolation. These are not leadership failures or due to a lack of competence they are natural human responses to sustained pressure in high-stakes environments.
Participants will then identify the sources of pressure shaping their work to start making the invisible visible, which will open the door to addressing those sources with precision.
By the end of the session, leaders will leave with greater clarity about the pressure shaping their leadership and a concrete next step to begin navigating it more effectively.
Cyber Security will always involve high stakes and constant demand. The goal of this session isn’t to eliminate pressure, it’s to help leaders better understand that pressure and gain practical ways to mitigate it.
What you’ll learn
During the session, leaders will:
- Recognise how constant pressure becomes normalised in Cyber Security leadership
- Identify the behavioral signals that indicate to what extent pressure is shaping their decisions
- Scan common sources of pressure in Cyber Security leadership environments
- Pinpoint a source of pressure affecting their work significantly
- Walk through a practical approach to identify a first step toward mitigating that source of pressure
Speakers
DR. Daniel Shore
Has a PhD in Workplace Psychology and works as a facilitator, consultant, and researcher, leading development initiatives for multi-team systems in complex and unpredictable environments. His expertise in helping cyber security leaders and teams build resilience under constant pressure was developed through his involvement in a 5-year research project, funded by the US Department of Homeland Security and multiple European governments, which aimed to identify the social-behavioral drivers of cyber security effectiveness.
Dr. Shore applies the insights from this work to bring a human-centered approach to strengthening individual and collective resilience in cyber security. As a co-founder of MultiTeam Solutions, he currently trains cyber security professionals in the public and private sectors, including at conferences such as those hosted by SANS and Black Hat.
Coach Zac Broomfield
Zac is devoted to helping cyber security leaders enhance self-reflection, perspective-taking, communication skills, and their abilities to lead multi-team systems under pressure. With over a decade of experience working with leaders in diverse settings, designing training, executive coaching, and facilitating retreats, Zac has immersed himself in understanding how leaders from different backgrounds perceive their pressure, interpret related challenges, and create their own solutions.
Zac's expertise in translating cyber security leadership principles into digestible and actionable language can be applied in nearly every work situation to foster stronger relationships and improved competence for leaders, teams, and organizations. As a co-founder of MultiTeam Solutions, he currently trains cybersecurity professionals in the public and private sectors, including at conferences such as those hosted by SANS and Black Hat.
