AI Adoption Champion FAQs
What does an AI champion do?
The AI Adoption Champion programme is aligned to the Digital Support Technician Level 3 apprenticeship standard and is designed to help organisations build practical AI capability across their workforce.
Learners develop the knowledge and skills to identify opportunities for AI, improve productivity, support colleagues and help responsible AI adoption become part of everyday work.
Rather than focusing purely on technical development, the programme combines AI tools, automation, data awareness and change management skills, enabling learners to drive meaningful improvements across teams and business processes.
What does an AI Adoption Champion do?
An AI Adoption Champion helps colleagues and teams make effective use of AI in their day-to-day work. They identify opportunities to improve productivity, streamline processes and automate routine tasks, helping organisations turn AI potential into measurable business value.
Who is the AI Adoption Champion apprenticeship for?
This programme is suitable for employees in almost any role or department who want to help their organisation adopt AI more effectively. No previous technical knowledge is required.
The programme is ideal for individuals who are curious about AI and want to help identify opportunities, improve processes and support positive change across their organisation.
How can AI Champions help businesses adopt AI?
Many organisations invest in AI technology but struggle to achieve widespread adoption. AI Champions help bridge this gap by combining practical AI skills with the ability to support colleagues and encourage new ways of working.
By identifying high-value use cases, improving processes, building practical automations and promoting responsible AI practices, they help organisations increase productivity, improve efficiency and achieve greater value from AI investments.
What skills will learners develop on the programme?
Throughout the programme they will learn how to:
- Use generative AI and Microsoft Copilot to improve workplace productivity.
- Identify and prioritise valuable AI opportunities within their organisation.
- Automate everyday tasks and workflows using AI-powered tools.
- Build and use purpose-led AI agents with appropriate guardrails.
- Apply responsible AI principles and work securely with organisational data.
- Support colleagues, build confidence and encourage successful AI adoption across teams.
By the end of the programme, learners will be able to move from simply using AI tools to helping others realise value from them.
How much time will learners be away from their desk?
The majority of learning takes place in the workplace through practical application and real business projects. Apprentices spend most of their time in their normal role, applying new skills to genuine organisational challenges and opportunities.
Like all apprenticeships, learners receive dedicated off-the-job learning time. However, this is designed to complement their day-to-day responsibilities, helping them develop new capabilities while delivering value to the business throughout the programme.
Can existing employees complete this apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are not only for new hires or early-career professionals. Many organisations use apprenticeships to upskill existing employees and develop new skills within their current workforce.
The AI Adoption Champion programme is particularly well suited to employees who are already embedded within the business, as they can immediately apply their learning, identify opportunities for improvement and support AI adoption within their teams.
How is this programme funded?
The programme is funded through the Growth and Skills Levy. Levy-paying employers can use their levy funds to cover the full cost of apprenticeship training, subject to funding rules and eligibility requirements.
For organisations that do not pay the levy, government co-investment may be available, helping make apprenticeship training a cost-effective way to develop AI capability across the workforce.
Our apprenticeship specialists can explain the funding options available and help determine the most appropriate approach for your organisation.
What happens after I enquire?
Once you get in touch, one of our apprenticeship and AI specialists will discuss your organisation's goals, workforce needs and existing level of AI adoption.
We'll help you determine whether the AI Adoption Champion programme is the right fit, explain funding options, answer any questions about apprenticeships and guide you through the onboarding process. From initial enquiry through to enrolment, our team will support you every step of the way.
