Overview
Many workplace professionals are responsible for sharing knowledge, transferring skills or delivering training as part of their role. Effective training involves more than explaining a process or presenting information. It helps people understand what they learn and apply it in the workplace.
The TAP® Training Delivery Fundamentals course is a practical two-day programme that introduces the core principles of effective training delivery. You will explore the differences between training and presenting, how to create a positive learning environment, and how to structure short training sessions using the TAP® methodology.
You will develop practical skills in setting learning objectives, using questioning techniques, selecting appropriate learning methods and encouraging learner participation. You will also explore how training delivery style, confidence, body language and session structure contribute to an effective learning experience.
Throughout the programme, you will work on a training topic of your choice. You will apply the techniques covered as you plan your session, practise elements of your delivery and receive feedback against the TAP® guidelines.
By the end of the course, you will have a practical foundation for planning and delivering engaging training sessions that support learning and achieve defined outcomes.

Outline
The two-day programme combines core training principles with practical activities. You will explore how to prepare an effective training session, create the right conditions for learning and practise delivery techniques using your chosen topic.
Getting started: preparation
Before the course, identify a topic that you can use to plan a short training session. Be ready to take part in discussions and practical exercises throughout the programme. Your chosen topic will provide a practical focus for applying the TAP® methodology.
Day 1: Building effective training sessions
Training versus presenting
Explore the differences between training and presenting, including the importance of learner-centred training. Consider the role of the trainer and how effective training helps learners participate, develop understanding and work towards defined outcomes.
Training delivery style
Examine the behaviours and techniques that contribute to an effective training delivery style. You will explore how to:
- Create a positive learning climate.
- Use body language effectively.
- Demonstrate confidence and enthusiasm.
- Use training resources and manage timings.
- Encourage participation and engagement.
You will consider how your delivery style can support a learning environment in which people feel able to contribute.
Questioning techniques
Explore the value of effective questioning in training. Learn how to use open and guided questions to encourage learner contributions, maintain engagement and check understanding.
You will consider how questions can help you understand learners' responses and identify whether key points have been understood.
Structuring a training session
Learn how to structure a training session using the TAP® methodology. You will explore the relationship between the introduction, learning and review stages, and how to create a clear route through the session.
Topics include:
- Applying the TAP® session structure.
- Using Purpose, Objective, Process, Experience and Application (POPEA).
- Writing learning objectives.
- Aligning assessments with learning objectives.
- Planning your own training session.
You will begin applying these principles to your chosen topic, preparing the structure and objectives for your practical training session.
Day 2: Delivering effective training
Session preparation
Develop the introduction to your training session and prepare the practical activities you intend to deliver. Consider how the session structure, learning objectives and delivery approach work together to support the intended outcomes.
Delivery practice and feedback
Practise delivering sections of your training session, applying the TAP® Training Delivery Style guidelines. You will receive coaching and feedback to help you review your approach and refine your delivery techniques.
This practical work gives you an opportunity to apply the course principles to a topic relevant to your workplace.
Feedback and reflection
Receive trainer assessment and feedback on your practical work. Reflect on your strengths and identify opportunities to improve your training delivery.
You will consider how to use the feedback to inform your next steps and continue developing your skills.
Course close and next steps
Review your learning and identify ways to apply it in the workplace. Develop a personal action plan, consider continuing professional development and review the requirements for TAP® Training Delivery Fundamentals accreditation and the digital badge.
