Our IT Systems and Networking Advanced to Technical Modern Apprenticeship combines classroom training and on-the-job experience to develop real world skills using cutting edge IT technologies.

This apprenticeship gives you a great opportunity to develop and enhance your technical skills, ensuring you have the grounding needed to become a ICT Technician, Support Desk Analyst or Systems Administrator.

What’s included?

On successful completion of the programme, you will gain the following qualifications:

Part 1 – Advanced Modern Apprenticeship:

  • SQA SCQF 6 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunication Professional
  • Installing and configuring Windows 7 client (Exam optional – only one exam included)
  • Upgrading your skills to MCSA Windows 8 (Exam optional – only one exam included)
  • Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices ICND1 (Exam optional cost)
  • Microsoft IT Security Fundamentals (No exam)
  • Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012 (Exam optional cost)

Part 2 – Technical Modern Apprenticeship:

  • SQA SCQF 8 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunication Professional
  • Server Virtualisation with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Centre (Exam optional cost)
  • Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices ICND2 (Exam optional cost)

Prerequisites

The entry requirements for this programme are as follows:

  • Age 16-24
  • 5 Standard grades (Level 1-3)
  • OR 5 National 5’s or intermediate 2’s level C or above (including Maths and English)

What will you learn?

You will learn technical skills including:

  • Understanding Microsoft Windows Server 2012
  • Using Microsoft Windows 7/8.1 and other client operating systems
  • Understanding Cloud technologies
  • Working with mobility solutions such as Microsoft Intune
  • Securing devices and networks

This will equip you with the skills essential to take on job roles such as First Line/Helpdesk Support, Junior Network Support/Technician, ICT Technician and Systems Administrator.

Outline

During the programme, you will complete:

  1. Six classroom units introducing tech theory and fundamentals.
  2. Competency units to complete in the workplace, providing a direct link between theory and practice.

The classroom units included in part 1 of this programme are:

  • Unit 1: IT and Telecoms System Management 2
  • Unit 2: Testing IT and Telecoms System 2
  • Unit 3: IT and Telecoms System Operation 2
  • Unit 4: Investigating and Defining Customer Requirements for IT and Telecoms Systems 2
  • Unit 5: Working with IT and Telecoms Hardware and Equipment 2
  • Unit 6: Networking Principles 2

You will be required to complete competency units in the workplace during part 1 of your apprenticeship. The workplace units in part on of this programme are:

  • Unit 1: Personal Effectiveness 2
  • Unit 2: Health and Safety in IT and Telecoms
  • Unit 3: Customer Care for IT and Telecoms Professionals 2
  • Unit 4: Interpersonal and Written communications
  • Unit 5: Remote Support for IT and Telecoms Products or Services 2
  • Unit 6: Technical Advice and Guidance 2
  • Unit 7: IT and Telecoms Fault Diagnosis 2
  • Unit 8: User Profile Administration

The workplace units included in part 2 of this programme are:
