  • Defining what mentoring is and understanding it in context
  • Recognising the roles of the mentor, mentee and manager
  • Recognising when the role of a mentor would be valuable


Discussing interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in the mentoring setting

  • Defining the skills and attributes of a mentor
  • Defining the obstacles to mentoring
  • Developing an empathic approach to mentoring
  • Analysing their own skills and behaviours in the interpersonal and intrapersonal contexts


Structuring a mentoring programme

  • Analysing the skills and experience of a mentor with the needs and aspirations of a mentee
  • Recognising the importance of contracts in the mentoring context
  • Developing a contract with the mentee
  • Defining the mentoring process
  • Analysing progress through the programme and identifying an appropriate end-point


Conducting a mentoring session

  • Recognising the importance of mentoring in a conducive environment
