This course gives professional instructional designers the opportunity to objectively critique the quality of e-learning self-study modules based upon the TAP methodologies.

This course begins with a 1 hour online session, ‘How to’ Quality assurance e-Learning? followed by 2 days in the classroom.

British Institute for Learning and Development (the Institute)

The Institute is the awarding body for all certificates and diplomas issued under the Training Accreditation Programme (TAP®). On completion of this course delegates can apply for membership. Prerequisites and audience

  • Delegates are required to hold a TAP Certificate in e-Learning Design issued within the last three years.
  • The Organisation must employ a minimum of four L&D personnel holding valid TAP Certification or have made a commitment to a TAP Certification by way of booking relevant under-pinning TAP Certificates
  • This course is for instructional design professionals who have been designated to carry out regular assessment of in-house or external of e-Learning modules as part of their quality assurance process.

Course objectives and assessment

Assess an e-Learning self-study module against the eight Quality Assurance e-Learning Design Guidelines and provide developmental feedback

Leading to the TAP Certificate in Assessing e-Learning Design.

The Certificate’s one-year expiry date maintains TAP’s quality assurance procedures and ensures that TAP Accreditation remains dynamic and current.

Competencies delegates will develop

1. Quality assuring e-Learning

  • Identify the eight e-Learning design guidelines for effective and engaging e-Learning
  • Build productive working relationships with subject matter experts
  • Assess to agreed guidelines

2. Assess the learning outcome

  • Assess the learning outcome is specific, measurable and relevant to the subject matter and the target audience

3. Assess the structure and content

  • Quality assure the module to ensure the five stages of the learning process are covered
  • Judge the balance of information slides to interactive slides throughout the module

4. Assess learner engagement

  • Assess whether the content is visually pleasing and whether relevant scenarios have been incorporated throughout the module

5. Assess the interface design

  • Assess whether the module is easy to navigate and whether consistent branding guidelines have been applied

6. Assess media elements

  • Assess the variety of media elements included in the module and ensure they are relevant to the subject matter

7. Assess alpha and beta testing

  • Proof-read and check the module is working correctly

8. Assess supporting learning transfer

  • Identify what further support and learning opportunities are included to help the audience apply the learning back in the workplace

9. Assess measuring success

  • Check what plans are in place to measure the quality and success of the project in the workplace

10. Give constructive feedback

  • Identify positive points and constructive feedback required for sign off
  • Give feedback using a variety of communication methods to suit the developer
  • Agree an action plan and review date
