Our Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship combines online learning, classroom training and on-the-job experience to help you successfully lead a team.

The programme is a good fit if you have just taken a step up into management, or you’re in a management role and want to learn new best-practice approaches to management.

This programme is a great opportunity to develop and enhance your leadership skills.

What’s included?

On successful completion of the programme, you will gain the following qualifications:

  • Team Leader Level 3
  • CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management
  • CMI Foundation Chartered Manager status

After completing this apprenticeship, the Foundation Chartered Manager status will also be embedded into the CMI EPA for the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship. Foundation Chartered Managers will be expected to keep a CPD log that will be reviewed annually. In order to maintain the status, they must remain members of the CMI. This enables them to access the resources and networking they need in order to progress their development.


The entry requirements for this programme are as follows:

  • Must be in a management role such as Supervisor, Team Leader or Shift Manager
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades D or above
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject

What will you learn?

You will learn essential management skills including:

  • Communicating effectively
  • Managing finance and budgets
  • Leading and motivating a team
  • Solving problems and making decisions

We also include market-leading profiling tools to help you enhance your management skills to a high level:

  • Strength Deployment Inventory – to develop a better understanding of how motives drive behaviours.
  • Situational Leadership – explore how a manager must adjust their style to fit the development level of the followers they are trying to influence.
  • Learning Styles Questionnaire – get to know your learning style and accelerate your learning by using the style you prefer, whilst improving on weaknesses.


During the programme you will be required to spend 20% of your time at work on off-the-job learning.

Our programme helps you easily fit your learning around your day job with access to our online learning platform – learning can be accessed anytime, anywhere and on any device so you get high-quality content on the go.

You will complete:

  1. Seven knowledge modules introducing management theory and fundamentals, through a combination of online learning and practical classroom workshops.
  2. On-programme assignments for the CMI diploma.
  3. A work-based portfolio showcasing how you have demonstrated the skills you have learnt in real work projects.
  4. An end-point assessment presentation and interview to ensure you’ve met the learning outcomes of the programme.

  • Module 1: Time Management & Chairing Meetings (1 day – guided learning)
  • Module 2: Stepping up to Management (2 days)
  • Module 3: Communicating Effectively (2 days)
  • Module 4: Leading and Motivating a Team (2 days)
  • Module 5: Solve Problems and Make Decisions (1 day)
  • Module 6: Project Management for Non-Project Managers (1 day)
  • Module 7: Finance for Non-Finance Managers (1 day)
