This degree level equivalent qualification has been specifically designed for individuals who have leadership and management responsibilities in the financial sector.

There are two mandatory units to this qualification, The first unit, 'Becoming an Effective Leader' will develop the knowledge and understanding of effective leadership as required by a practising or potential middle manager in the city. This unit will give delegates a solid understanding of leadership, including the key competencies of leadership, understanding different leadership styles, when to use them and with whom, as well as how to evaluate their own ability to lead others.

The second unit 'Leading with Integrity' will help managers specifically in the financial industries lead with integrity. It will help them to balance the economic, legal, ethical and community responsibilities in a way which creates value for the business, as well as for society in general. It specifically covers understanding different forms of integrity, how to address ethical dilemmas, economic, legal and social responsibilities as well as how to appropriately align them as a leader in the city.

  • The workshops are highly participative, using facilitated discussion, presentations, case studies, group coaching, and group work. The workshops promote reflective review, and encourage participants to find opportunities to apply the learning directly into the workplace.

  • In order to achieve accreditation, participants will also be supported with 3x hours of group tutorial support as well as individual coaching, in order for them to complete around 50x hours of work based learning assignment, which is independently assessed and verified by the ILM.

Target Audience:

  • This qualification will particularly suit potential and practicing middle managers as well as leaders who wish to lead people in a legal, economic and more ethical way, whilst addressing the social responsibilities of their organisation.

Outline

Unit One - Becoming and effective leader

The objective of this module is to develop the knowledge and understanding of effective leadership as required by a practising or potential middle manager in the city.

Module 1. Understanding own ability to fulfil key responsibilities of the leadership role

  • Understanding a range of leadership theories and understanding the different leadership styles
  • Ability to evaluate own ability to lead others
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship management
  • The characteristics of self-leadership
  • The role that effective communication plays in conveying overall vision and goals and how to win and maintain the commitment of teams and individuals to these
  • Critiques of the main theories in order to understand motivation
  • Motivational factors that are available to the leader
  • The leader's role in protecting and mentoring team members

Module 2.- The Work Based Assignment

The purpose of this programme is to develop knowledge and understanding of leading people and teams, whilst demonstrating integrity. The assignment needs to demonstrate how individuals will apply the learning directly within their organisation.

It is recommended that delegates discuss the assignment with their line manager and agree how the task could be used to support the needs of the organisation, as well as evidencing the learning as part of completing an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leading with Integrity qualification. Learning assignments will be independently assessed and verified by the ILM.

Delegates should plan to spend approximately 50 hours researching the workplace context, preparing for and writing the assignment.

The assignment will need to cover the following indicative elements:

  • Own personal development plan to improve ability to lead
  • The different forms of integrity that are required
  • An evaluation of my ability to lead others
  • How to address ethical dilemmas as a leader in an organisation
  • The economic responsibilities of a leader in an organisation, towards shareholders and stakeholders
  • The legal and social responsibilities of a leader in an organisation
  • How to align the ethical, economic, legal, and social responsibilities of a leader
  • N.B. There will be 3x hours of group tutorial support on day two of Unit One as well as ongoing individual support available throughout the programme.
