ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management Skills

5-Day Course

Those in middle management face a multitude of challenges on a day-to-day basis and are constantly required to model effective management behaviours whilst driving motivation and achievement of goals and objectives through their teams and throughout the organisation.

Effective and practical mid and senior management and leadership skills have historically been ignored in many organisations, with managers expected to know , leading to poor management, potential legal issues and massive losses of workplace productivity.

 

Learning Outcomes

This qualification will enable managers to:

  • Utilise a through understanding of Leadership Styles in the organisational context in order to enhance own practice
  • Effectively review their own Leadership Qualities and Potential
  • Define strategy for their area of responsibility and communicate this to the team alongside organisational vision and strategy
  • Understand the importance of employee motivation and engagement to organisational and individual success
  • Recognise the importance of implementation and communication of strategies and decisions

 

Style and Structure

This highly participative five-day programme is designed to use facilitated discussion, presentation, case study, group work and reading and research in order to provide a rich learning experience that can be applied directly in the workplace as well as allowing participants to complete a government-approved qualification.

Typically this programme is run over a three-month period, with sessions held regularly. Additional modules can be added from our extensive portfolio of courses in order to create a programme that meets your needs. Additional accredited modules can also be added in order to build to a full Certificate and/or Diploma qualification.

 

Assessment and Course/Qualification Support

This Nationally accredited course, certified by the Institute of Leadership and Management, comprises a work- based assignment and reflective review of work practice. Support with assignments and application of learning back in the workplace is included both during and after the programme.

 

Day 1 - Introducing the programme leadership in the organisational context

  • The manager's role in the organisation's success
  • Motivating and developing the team through understanding the wider organisation
  • Identify the key stakeholders in the organisation

Day 2 - Communication, Planning & reviewing personal performance & development

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Overcoming barriers to communication to ensure successful teams
  • Assessing my Skills, Opportunities for development, Challenges and Knowledge and Skills in order to develop
  • How my effectiveness and behaviour affects those that I manage
  • Meeting my development needs: Plan, Do, Review
  • Assignment Brief; Reflective Review
  • One to one review of progress and assignment coaching

 

Day 3 - Understanding and Working with differing Leadership Styles

  • Identifying your leadership style and that of those that you manage
  • Leadership styles in the organisational context
  • Leadership styles and their affect on motivation and performance management
  • Identifying complimentary Leadership Behaviours to enhance productivity
  • Leadeship Behaviours: Leading through action
  • Utilising emotional intelligence to understand colleagues and yourself more effectively

 

Day 4 - Engagement and Motivation

  • Defining motivation and engagement in the organisational context
  • Why motivate?
  • Recognising problems
  • Understanding problems and what causes them
  • Analysing information and data to make an effective decision
  • Identifying options to resolve problems
  • Simple decision making techniques
  • Communicating, implementing and reviewing decisions

 

Day 5 - Reviewing Leadership Ability

  • Utilising identified leadership styles and behaviours in order to manage more effectively through adaptability
  • Create effective links between organisation, team and individual's goals
  • Programme Review: key learning points
  • Assignment Brief; Work-based assignment
  • One to one review of progress and assignment coaching

 

All courses are delivered onsite by a training team with experience of working in over 50 NHS Trusts, and provide key professional development skills contextualised to fit an NHS environment.
