Great people skills. Brilliant technical knowledge. Getting stuck in. Where can you find people with that perfect blend?

Youmanage, based at the Innovation Park at Stirling University, attracted people like this to join their growing Client Services Team through QA’s Digital Application Support SCQF Level 6 apprenticeships.

Youmanage hire apprentices because they’re eager to learn, keen to work and want to get to grips with the practicalities of business – the perfect qualities required for the people speaking to Youmanage’s customers every day.

We helped Youmanage find and train two of their apprentices, Sam and Rebecca. Together they help Youmanage’s customers get the best from their product – a cloud-based HR platform, with compliance-driven process automation at its heart.

Working within the Client Services Team is a very challenging and demanding role. Everyone in that team needs a high level of technical knowledge and expertise to understand the intricacies of a complex HR management platform. They must know the system inside and out, so that they can provide the very best service levels for customers, advising them on how they realise their investment in HR technology. They listen to customer queries and help clients to understand the capabilities of all six functional modules that make up the Youmanage product. They also organise and run product configuration and training sessions to teach people how to use and get the most from the Youmanage platform.

“The overall value we’ve got out of the apprenticeship programme with QA has been superb. Our apprentices are so invaluable to our team."

About Nick

Nick is the CEO of Youmanage. He’s got over 25 years’ leadership experience and continues to lead Youmanage’s success after a rebrand and product relaunch in 2010.

Nick Pye, CEO at Youmanage, says, “we’ve always been committed to increasing our staff numbers by developing the younger workforce within the local area. We were hugely impressed with the base level of personal attributes and characteristics when they joined us and these were essential in order to progress within the team. The apprenticeship programme has allowed them to learn many new skills, which has meant that they’ve been able to take a proactive approach in suggesting operational changes within Youmanage.”

Sam’s knowledge and additional time spent with the product has meant that he’s now started presenting Youmanage to new prospective clients, which has contributed to the number of new client accounts being set up.

They’ve also got involved in more than just the day job – contributing to a great atmosphere in the office. Sam’s become the ‘Chief Health & Wellbeing Officer’ – a tongue-in-cheek title, but his role is to boost wellbeing and promote healthy living. At the moment, he’s promoting a healthy culture at work – keeping people motivated by getting them to earn points in an engaging and fun health initiative.

Nick continues “They’re both fantastic and we’d now be very lost without them. I’m consistently impressed by their level of expertise and professionalism and how good they are at delivering against the many and varied aspects of their job roles. Their knowledge of our product is off the scale, and their passion for the part that they play, and their enthusiasm to contribute to our overall company success, is simply brilliant. We will continue to invest in their personal development beyond the completion of the apprenticeship programme.”

What are their future plans?

Based on their experience with QA, Youmanage will definitely choose apprenticeships to grow their business in future.

Nick says “The overall value we’ve got out of the apprenticeship programme with QA has been superb. Our apprentices are so invaluable to our team. Their willingness to learn and their passion for the role means we’d love more fantastic people to join us on the apprenticeship programme in the near future.”
