The Introduction to Big Data on AWS practical workshop is designed to introduce students to the benefits of processing and analyzing big data using the tools offered on the AWS platform. No prior knowledge of the field will be assumed. The workshop will have a short presentation followed by practical labs in which students will work with EMR and Redshift to analyse extracts from real-world datasets.

Target Audience

This course is intended for:

  • Architects
  • Developers

Prior knowledge of AWS services is not required.

Bring your own device please

Students must bring a laptop. If you are using a managed corporate laptop, please ensure either that you already have some form of SQL client installed, or that you have sufficient privileges to download and install a standalone application on the day.

Delegates will learn how to

  • Create and monitor an EMR cluster.
  • Create and monitor a Redshift cluster.
  • Use Hive and SQL to analyse sample datasets .
