Scrum adoption continues to grow and as organisations seek to become successful at Scrum, many people find that different communication skills are needed to make it work. This course focuses on the skills needed for a Scrum Master to work effectively as a 'servant leader', team coach, and facilitator. A role-play scenario will be used to put new skills into practice. The course is designed around delegates participating in exercises and role-playing scenarios to learn the new skills.

Target Audience

The course is beneficial for anyone who has some experience of working as a Scrum Master and has the desire to apply coaching and facilitation skills to the role.

Prerequisites

Delegates should have completed the Professional Scrum Master I certification (Scrum.org), or Certified Scrum Master (Scrum Alliance), prior to registering for this course.

Pre-Course Reading


Delegates should be familiar with the content and rationale for the rules of Scrum in the Scrum Guide, available at www.scrumguides.org.

Delegates will learn how to

  • Explore the meaning of the Scrum Values in an organizational context
  • Build on existing Scrum Master experience with coaching skills to support the responsibilities of a Scrum Master (based on The Scrum Guide™ at www.scrumguides.org)
  • Learn facilitation skills to support Scrum events such as Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives
  • Identify options for dealing with typical day-to-day issues that arise in Scrum Teams

  • Understand the meaning of the five Scrum Values commitment, focus, openness, courage, and respect

Review of Scrum Master responsibilities to the Product Owner, Development Team, and the organization

Coaching in a Scrum Environment
