Overview

This five-week online course will help L&D professionals design and deliver engaging virtual sessions. This is a practical, skills-based course, allowing participants to get hands-on practise with the tools to get them ready to design and facilitate virtual sessions back in the workplace.

The course comprises four two-hour virtual sessions, and a final showcase day spread over five weeks, with course work between sessions. It also includes an optional practise day.

Prerequisites

This course is ideal for L&D professionals with or without classroom training experience, subject matter experts, or anyone who needs to gain practical experience of facilitating online learning events. It does not have any formal pre-requisites.

Delegates will:

  • plan and facilitate a 15–20-minute online session to meet the criteria of the Facilitating Online Learning checklist.
  • participate in the weekly activities and assignments.

Session details

Part 1: Getting started (pre-requisites)

Before the workshop, there is an important pre-course preparation document, which will be marked as a milestone within QA’s online platform. The participants will have to:

  • read the learning log and establish their goals for the course.
  • agree upon a work-based learning project with their line manager to work on and after the course.

Part two: Five-day workshop

Week one: Overview and Learning Objectives

This week includes:

  • Tutor-led online session: 2 hours
    • Discussion on the drivers for digital transformation and demand-driven learning impacting learning design and delivery.
    • Writing learning objectives.
  • Assignment one - Choose a topic for your eLearning project and write your learning objective.

Week two: Engagement and Design

This week includes:

  • Tutor-led online session: 2 hours
    • Structuring a session effectively.
    • Ideas for designing eye-catching graphics.
    • Considering facilitation style.
  • Assignment two - Create an interactive slide ready to deliver in Week 3.

Week three: Online Tools

This week includes:

  • Tutor-led online session: 2 hours
    • Delivery platforms and set-up.
    • External apps - Miro showcase.
    • Common functionality.
    • Showcase your slide.
  • Assignment three - Start designing your slides and notes.

Week four: Planning and Preparation

This week includes:

  • Tutor-led online session: 2 hours
    • Getting ready on the day.
    • Creating a positive learning climate.
    • Troubleshooting.
    • Hands-on practise - Showcase your first few slides.
  • Assignment three - Continue with designing your slides and notes.

Week five: Showcase days (9.30am-4.30pm)

This week includes:

  • Tutor-led online session:
    • Facilitate your own 15-20 minute live online session.
    • Participate in the facilitated activities of others in the group.
    • Tutor feedback.

Part three: Applying the learning at work

  • Participants will have up to two months to further develop their skills, knowledge and behaviours within the areas learnt.
  • They will document their actions using a template we provide giving them the opportunity to reflect, plan and discuss next steps with their managers/organisations.

Obtaining a digital badge

A digital badge will be awarded once the following has been undertaken:

  • Completion of the learning within the course.
  • Application of the learning in the workplace within two months of the course.
  • Evidence of reflection and action planning within the learning log.
  • Declaration of implementation of actions signed by them and their line manager and submitted.

If nine or more days of TAP Training have been completed and digital badges have been awarded, a TAP Excellence badge can be claimed by writing to qa.customerservice@qa.com.

How can I create an account on myQA.com?

There are a number of ways to create an account. If you are a self-funder, simply select the "Create account" option on the login page.

If you have been booked onto a course by your company, you will receive a confirmation email. From this email, select "Sign into myQA" and you will be taken to the "Create account" page. Complete all of the details and select "Create account".

If you have the booking number you can also go here and select the "I have a booking number" option. Enter the booking reference and your surname. If the details match, you will be taken to the "Create account" page from where you can enter your details and confirm your account.

How do QA’s virtual classroom courses work?

Our virtual classroom courses allow you to access award-winning classroom training, without leaving your home or office. Our learning professionals are specially trained on how to interact with remote attendees and our remote labs ensure all participants can take part in hands-on exercises wherever they are.

We use the WebEx video conferencing platform by Cisco. Before you book, check that you meet the WebEx system requirements and run a test meeting (more details in the link below) to ensure the software is compatible with your firewall settings. If it doesn’t work, try adjusting your settings or contact your IT department about permitting the website.

How do QA’s online courses work?

QA online courses, also commonly known as distance learning courses or elearning courses, take the form of interactive software designed for individual learning, but you will also have access to full support from our subject-matter experts for the duration of your course. When you book a QA online learning course you will receive immediate access to it through our e-learning platform and you can start to learn straight away, from any compatible device. Access to the online learning platform is valid for one year from the booking date.

All courses are built around case studies and presented in an engaging format, which includes storytelling elements, video, audio and humour. Every case study is supported by sample documents and a collection of Knowledge Nuggets that provide more in-depth detail on the wider processes.

When will I receive my joining instructions?

Joining instructions for QA courses are sent two weeks prior to the course start date, or immediately if the booking is confirmed within this timeframe. For course bookings made via QA but delivered by a third-party supplier, joining instructions are sent to attendees prior to the training course, but timescales vary depending on each supplier’s terms. Digital badges for individual courses will be issued automatically upon submission of approved learning at course completion.
