The key aim of the Public graduate programme is to create a work based culture of collaborative, cross functional and agile working practices. We will leverage the critical, evaluative and reflective skills of high calibre graduates from a multi-disciplinary background and provide a project lead framework that will develop team-work, business goal driven approach to work.

The Digital Product Owner build a technically savvy project manager and owner capable of working with Agile teams building User Centred programmes and driving home innovation thinking and metric driven transformation within a business.

The work release version of this programme delivers the skills from the fast track over a decompressed programme requiring one full week of study every month followed by further study every twelve weeks.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates who complete the Digital Product Owner Fast Track will be coached to:

  • Learn how to use Agile from the business objective
  • Be able to capture business requirements and turn them into agile inputs
  • Understand the digital landscape and how to horizon scan for problems
  • Learn how to manage projects with PRINCE2
  • Professional skills including presenting with impact

Course Outline

Week 1

In week 1 students will see the case study for the first time, understand the constraints and aims of the programme and be introduced to practically working in an Agile team. The programme begins with an intro to Agile, setting the cultural scene, establishing Agile best practice and quickly getting to the point of creating and managing a product backlog.

As well as Agile the graduates will understand how they can drive and influence and communicate with stakeholders and understand the other essential technical and digital product drivers such as Lean, DevOps and User Experience

Week 2

In week 2 the grads jumped in at the deep end, creating a product backlog very early; now they learn about the rigour of proper business analysis and the toolkit that supports it, as well as acknowledging that not all projects are Agile. Further skills around the engagement and translation of continuous improvement and learning cultures will be imparted giving the graduates the skills to evaluate how to approach a problem

Week 3

The next step is to put a project wrapper around the work the analysis and management skills the graduates have learned and focus them on the higher-level project wrapper looking at how to manage and structure digital products.

Week 4

Students will continue to work on the case study project and execute a simulated Digital Product Owner role. Working with Business constraints they will roleplay with business owners to manage a rapidly shifting set of objectives learning how to implement and deliver a project plan. They will report back their findings at the end of the week as a reflective piece of work to stakeholders exploring how they have achieved the project aims and the programme aims.

Further Learning

Each student will be provided with 5 further days of learning every 3 months to provide a continuous learning programme that builds upon the core programme and allows you to develop the individual abilities of your graduate talent.
