How QA helped develop eLearning content based on the Dell WFM Application.

The Challenge

Dell was implementing a Service Request Toolset for their in-house field services organisation. The application was known as Dell WFM (Workforce Management).

QA were asked to develop eLearning content based on four modules covered within the Dell WFM Application. The requirements were clearly defined:

  • Development of web training content
  • Clear course objectives and structure
  • An easy to understand approach implemented when designing the content
  • Modularised package
  • Include assessments
  • Maximum 2.5 hours seat time
  • Voiceover to be included

The Solution

It was vital to the success of the project that QA and Dell worked closely together, as both the eLearning content and the WFM Application software were being developed at the same time. This meant working with Dell to determine areas of the application that were stable enough to develop into eLearning content and both parties taking a flexible approach to completion.

The development incorporated a 'Show me' demonstration, 'Try me' allowing the user to interact with the programme and 'Review me' assessment at the end of the module to test the users knowledge gained and retained. The assessments combined scenario based and multiple choice questions throughout.

The WfM training modules were clearly some of the most advanced and well presented computer based training ever seen at Dell. The training methods used in the CBT helped users more easily understand WfM’s sometimes complex procedures and instructions. Despite many changes to the original timescales and some changes in scope, QA delivered the high-quality product they promised. QA has clearly demonstrated their ability to deliver training products that far exceed the run-of-the-mill products delivered by other companies.

The Outcome

In addition to the eLearning content, QA produced a HTML Workbook to support users of the Dell WFM application. The project was successfully delivered within 8 months, within budget and agreed timescales and both products are being fully utilised today.
