Business and IT training courses from QA

When CGI introduced a virtual approach to global development, it turned to QA to help design and deliver interactive webinar sessions on themes relevant to CGI's philosophy of innovation and excellence.

The Challenge

With a large employee population spread across a broad geographical reach, CGI wanted to refresh its approach to learning and offer a far-reaching alternative to classroom courses. It opted to run a regular schedule of voluntary, bitesize sessions delivered via webinar, allowing employees globally to dial-in and receive the learning in short, convenient sessions.

Having identified a range of topic areas to be covered, some of which were to be delivered in-house, CGI needed the help of a learning provider to source, develop and deliver additional content to complete its innovative learning schedule. As experts in virtual learning, with instructors trained to deliver engaging and interactive virtual courses, QA was a natural choice to support this initiative.

We wanted to change people's way of thinking about training and give them bitesize pieces of learning on topics that interested them.

The Solution

CGI branded the initiative ‘Developing Exceptional People’ and wanted each of the webinars to tie into its philosophy of innovation and excellence, with each module focusing on a related topic.

QA developed and delivered five modules:

  • Authentic Leadership - An alternative leadership approach that harnesses emotional intelligence and self-awareness to drive results
  • Innovative Leadership - A module that challenged leadership approaches and thinking to drive organisational achievement
  • Great Development Conversations - Reinforcing the importance of managers taking ownership of performance conversations and the value that they bring to both the individual and the organisation
  • Porter’s Five Forces - A module that challenged delegates’ perceptions of their roles and contribution to CGI using the Five Forces as a means to position, grow and ensure profitability in what they do
  • The Feedback Loop - A session to help attendees understand the value of structured conversations that build relationships with colleagues and enable the sharing of feedback

During these highly interactive sessions, the trainer guided delegates through a series of onscreen slides, videos and examples. To create a collaborative and stimulating environment, delegates were able to message one another during the session to complete group activities and a ‘whiteboard’ area was available for delegates to post thoughts and comments to be addressed later in the event. Each session was recorded and posted on CGI’s intranet, providing a valuable reference aid.

As well as developing and delivering the five modules above, QA contacted trainers from its broad network of partner suppliers to provide additional topic content for other learning modules relevant to CGI’s theme of innovation and excellence.

CGI is a business and technology service company, employing 72,000 people. It provides business consulting, systems integration and outsourcing to clients around the world, including many of Europe’s largest businesses.

The Outcome

The webinars have been a great success with high levels of attendance for these voluntary sessions. The demand has shown a willingness by employees to engage in innovative alternatives to classroom learning and CGI has observed attendees applying elements of the sessions in their day-to-day roles.

Following the success of the schedule, CGI is now introducing other innovative learning methods, including social media learning areas, wikis and blogs.

We've seen a real change in people’s views about non-classroom training. The events themselves were thoughtprovoking and challenging. QA very much helped to bring it all together, they helped us provide a lot of topic content.
