CCIE Routing and Switching

The CCIE® Routing and Switching certification is designed for network managers, professionals, senior network engineers and architects who are responsible for implementing and troubleshooting today’s complex converged networks in enterprise networking environments.

This expert-level certification recognises knowledge and experience in network infrastructure technologies. CCIE Routing and Switching validates the technical expertise required for implementing and troubleshooting complex networks and helps improve network uptime, increases user productivity and provides business agility. As such, there are no formal training requirements to complete before attempting to obtain the CCIE certification.

The list below contains Routing and Switching related training courses that may enhance your personal knowledge of the topics in the exams. To obtain your CCIE, you must first pass a written exam and then a corresponding hands-on lab exam.

There are two exams to pass to obtain the CCIE Routing and Switching Certification; 1 x written exam and 1 x lab exam. Details below.

CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam (400-101)

The Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam will validate that professionals have the expertise to: configure, validate, and troubleshoot complex enterprise network infrastructure; understand how infrastructure components interoperate; and translate functional requirements into specific device configurations. The exam is closed book and no outside reference materials are allowed.

An Evolving Technologies section is included in the Written exam only. It will enable candidates to bridge their core technology expertise with knowledge of the evolving technologies that are being adopted at an accelerated pace, such as cloud, IoT, and network programmability.

This exam can be taken at one of our Pearson Vue testing centres. Please contact your account manager for booking information.

CCIE Routing and Switching Lab Exam

The CCIE lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam which requires you to configure and troubleshoot a series of complex networks to given specifications. Knowledge of troubleshooting is an important skill and candidates are expected to diagnose and solve issues as part of the CCIE lab exam. You will not configure end-user systems, but are responsible for all devices residing in the network (hubs, etc.). Point values and testing criteria are provided. More detail is found on the Routing and Switching Lab Exam Blueprint and the list of Lab Equipment and IOS Versions.

The lab exam can only be booked with Cisco directly. Click here to see instructions from Cisco on how to book your exam.
