The IPSE-QA Freelancer Awards ceremony took place at the glittering Hospital Club in London on Thursday 16th June. And what a great night it was. With guest speakers, including the host, Tom Rosenthal, acclaimed comedian, actor and writer, entertaining us all during the event.
So after a busy afternoon celebrating National Freelancers Day, we all headed to the bar for champagne and nibbles and to mingle with all the freelancers for the IPSE-QA Freelancer Award ceremony.
The host for the evening was Tom Rosenthal – acclaimed comedian, actor and writer. You might have seen him on programmes like ‘Plebs’ and ‘Friday Night Dinner’. We were lucky enough to have an interview with Tom, where he spoke about what it’s like being a freelancer. Tom was also very excited about the new freelancer meetups QA have just launched, which gives freelancers to work, share their experiences and network with other like-minded individuals. Watch our interview with Tom to find out more.
Next up was QA’s very own David Walker, Head of Emerging Technologies, talking about digital innovation, the risks of digital disruption and how ‘thinking like a freelancer’ is good for us all. David spoke about the importance of being innovative, flexible, agile and willing to adapt. David emphasised how ‘failing to adapt can be fatal” and how freelancers can enable businesses to innovate.
The final speech of the evening was from Christer Holloman, bestselling technology author and journalist. Christer launched Glassdoor.com in Europe and was previously head of Digital Development at the Times and the Sunday Times, he had set up his own tech start-up and has been named one of London’s most influential individuals within new media by The Evening Standard. Christer kept the audience thoroughly engaged and shared some useful tips including the importance for freelancers to leverage their own personal brand. We were able to catch some time with Christer after his speech, who spoke about the importance of continual development and training. We also discovered that Christer had taken training with QA for a Certified Scrum Product Owner course and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He found the training an important part of his development. Watch our interview with Christer Holloman:
And finally it came to the climax of the evening. It was time to reveal the highly anticipated ‘Winners of the Freelancer of the Year Award.’ Tom Rosenthal presented the award to the winners Lauran Razavi and Emmeline Pidgen. Both were up against stiff competition and delighted to receive the prize. The winners received up to £5000 of training from QA. Congratulations to the winners! We hope you enjoy your training.
