We get a lot of questions from our Business Analyst delegates and of course we actively encourage this, after all Business Analysts are naturally curious!
Aside from the subject-related queries, one of the questions that seems to crop up is that of "what's next?", mainly from those who have completed the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, have some experience of Business Analysis and who now wish to supplement their knowledge with more advanced and specialist subjects.
The good news is that we are now able to answer that question.
The BCS has updated their Business Analysis portfolio to include new levels of certification allowing Senior Business Analysts the opportunity to gain Professional and Consultant level qualifications.
The Professional level is designed to provide a set of specialist courses across three categories of Business, Analytical and Personal, which enhance, and in most cases complement, the range of courses offered at the Foundation and Practitioner levels (which form the current BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis course options).
Courses within the Business category are:
- Benefits Planning and Realisation
- Business Finance (coming soon)
Courses within the Analytical category are:
- Agile Business Analysis
- Data Analysis
- Business Architecture (coming soon)
- Advanced Requirements Engineering (coming soon)
Courses within the Personal category are:
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Team Leadership (coming soon)
Finally, the Consultant level is the Advanced Diploma and recognises business analysis experience, expertise and contribution to the business analysis community. Applicants for the Diploma must demonstrate a combination of formal certification from the Professional level certifications and the International Diploma in Business Analysis. They must also show experience in business analysis, ongoing personal development in the profession and must actively contribute to the development and promotion of business analysis.
So what can you expect from attending the courses?
The Professional level courses have been designed to enrich the experience that delegates have by encouraging more of a practical approach using a case study, exercises and workshops to explore, apply and discuss the different tools and techniques. The focus is on learning by doing and building the knowledge required for the end of course exam and syllabus through experiencing the ideas and application of them. Attendees must therefore be prepared to get stuck in and participate, ask questions and learn from the activities.
