Mind the gap

How do you attract junior tech talent with a growing IT skills gap?

25 August 2017

The IT skills gap in the UK is growing, 75% of UK businesses have reported an IT skills shortage among their employees, despite 84 per cent of firms admitting that digital and IT skills are more important to their enterprise now than two years ago, according to statistics released by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). Businesses find it challenging to charm IT talent who can take on junior roles. This is where QA comes in.

We encounter businesses every day who find themselves buckling to a familiar pattern of recruitment. Hiring in more experienced individuals who then have to undertake menial tasks for their advanced skillset, resulting in an unmotivated workforce.

Some businesses have another problem entirely, having taken on an individual who they opt to train themselves. Another, more expensive, resource within the business is removed to train them with no guarantees this will work out long term.

Finding emerging talent to fulfil junior IT roles within organisations is a far easier prospect with a QA Infrastructure Technician Apprentice.

We make things simple. QA find enthusiastic candidates, with a genuine passion for technology, who want to build on the early skills they have already honed by navigating the tech they have come into contact with already. They’re keen to start a career in tech, and you need entry-level roles. We match these candidates with the best-suited businesses.

We develop their skills straight away. QA has a unique, blended, approach to our Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship which helps apprentices hit the ground running. We combine face-to-face technical workshops with online learning, so apprentices can regularly apply their new skills in practice in your business, and accelerate their development. Time away from the business is minimised via our interactive learning portal. Apprentices have the freedom to learn vital tech skills on-the-go and this approach has been a massive hit with businesses who have seen how this positively impacts productivity.

We are highly skilled. QA have the most experienced industry-aligned trainers who put the skills taught in our Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship in to a business context.

We have the experience. With a rich history in delivering, purpose built, IT training and learning solutions for businesses for over 30 years it is no wonder that QA have delivered over half of all the industry’s Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship starts.
