Atos Origin
How QA delivered a fully managed, custom-developed training programme for graduates entering Atos Origin.
The Solution
Graduates commencing work at leading IT solutions organisation Atos Origin undertake an extensive, residential three/six-week training programme. The programme is essential to take new entrants, with a mixed set of skills, up to the required skill level to perform their new roles with the IT teams at Atos Origin.
The technical IT training element of the graduate recruitment programme is provided by QA. First, graduates are streamed into three tiers, depending on their ability and aptitude. This is done via a training needs analysis, which is performed by QA, on a one-to-one basis, using telephone and e-mail. The subsequent training for each delegate will be focused around their future role - and would include Microsoft systems administration training, software engineering training, C# training, Java development training and Unix training.
The course materials were custom-created by QA specifically for the Atos Origin graduate programme. The courses use customised versions of the Official Microsoft Curriculum alongside other course modules, written by QA exclusively for Atos Origin. The provided training is a blended mixture of classroom courses and e-learning, to enable learning to take place in a way that is more flexible for each graduate.
In addition to the graduate training, QA has been helping Atos Origin’s IT staff achieve a high level of professional certification – in Microsoft and Sun technologies. For Atos Origin, having a higher level of certification in its IT teams not only provides a validation of knowledge, but also provides a differentiator when winning business.
QA worked with Atos Origin to align the company’s already defined job profiles to the various technical certification programmes. A structured training needs analysis used this information to create a learning path for each individual. QA provided a mixture of classroom training and e-learning – and managed each delegate through the process to ensure that the expected amount of progress was being made. Special courses were created by QA , which were a mixture of intensive training and examination preparation. These could be used flexibly – for example, people who already had the required knowledge simply attended the examination preparation days prior to taking the examinations.
Pre-examination software was used to test each delegate’s skills, to ensure that they were prepared for the examinations.
The whole process, including training needs analysis, course development, training, administration and examination preparation was managed and administered by QA.
